2018…The Year to Love your Reflection

It’s that time of year again…the days between Christmas and New Year when you struggle to remember what day it is and we contemplate what we want to achieve in the next 12 months. I personally love that feeling of being given a fresh start, a chance to make a difference.  And even though technically we can do this any day of the week or year, there is just something about a New Year that gives you that extra push. One of my goals this year is to be slightly better organised so that I have time to do all the things that are important to me as well as work on Fine Styling which I am very excited about.  This of course is much easier said than done when I’m trying to juggle work, gym, kids, etc etc but I think if I try and have set times to do things that might help.  I’m going to take a long look at my diary and typical week and start to block out certain times.  I’ll let you know how I get on.

Focusing on your style

But what I wanted to to focus this blog on was really to give you further reason,(in case you needed more) to consider giving your style a bit of attention as part of any New Year resolutions or goals.  Because the biggest take away I have had during my first year of styling is the instant difference wearing the right clothes and colours can have.  I never ever get tired of seeing a client’s face light up at their reflection in something they would never have picked out for themselves but yet they absolutely love.  The fact is, anyone can look good in clothes.  Size, shape and age are factors that help me to pick out the right things.  What they are not are reasons as to why clothes won’t look good.  Proportion, fabric, style, colour and cut all come into the equation, but get those right and the boost to your confidence and self esteem is guaranteed.  Add into the mix that one of the very first values that I wanted Fine Styling to be known for, was the way in which I treat each and every client as if they were my only one and you have the formula for a very positive and life changing experience.

Looking good and feeling good

When considering all the things you can do to make a positive impact on your life, I think that feeling confident in what you wear should sit along side exercise, healthy eating and a good dose of self love as a holistic approach to feeling better.  That is one of the biggest reasons why I collaborate with Jennie Gough to do our Style and Nutrition workshops as feeling good on the inside and looking good on the outside go hand in hand.  I’m happy to use myself as an example here.  A couple of years ago I was feeling down for increasing periods of time.  I tried to ignore it, but these things more often than not don’t just go away.  I started to eat better and joined a gym and this definitely helped. I also began counselling as it was something I had been thinking about doing for a while as I knew deep down that there were a few things I needed to sort out.  Yep turns out you can do your own head in LOL! But a huge factor was also becoming more confident in the clothes I was wearing and defining my style.  I know that sounds strange coming from a Personal Stylist who has had a love of fashion all her life, but I’m just like so many of you in that having children was a bit of a blip both in terms of my confidence and style. But understanding what suits me, and eventually feeling even more stylish than I did even in my 20’s has helped me hugely.  Putting it bluntly, Fine Styling would not have been created if I did not.  You can’t be a Personal Stylist without any personal style lol.

Self fulfilling prophesy

My experience with over 80+ clients also reinforces just how important liking the reflection in the mirror each morning really is. Client feedback reminds me time and time again how profound it is to feel confident in your clothes.  The impact ripples through to many aspects of your life.  Your work, your relationships, your ability to achieve other goals…and here’s the really interesting part. Imagine how much easier it would be to go for that promotion at work if you knew that when you stood up to speak in front of others you did not have to worry about creating the right impression with what you wear because you were confident in your style?  Maybe putting an outfit together that you love could give you the motivation to get on the dating scene again?  Feeling like you have nothing to wear if you did get asked out does stop people from even trying. If losing some weight and eating better is on your list, try to imagine how much easier it is to not dive back into the biscuit barrel if you are feeling better about yourself before you even start?  It’s a self fulfilling prophesy.

So maybe style should get onto your 2018 list after all?  If it does, and can relate to any of the above, do get in touch as I would love to hear from you. New year…new stylish you, and the rest will follow.

My Week:

We hosted Christmas this year which was lovely, but these last few days with no plans has been bliss.  Each day the children have asked, ‘what are we doing?’ And I have managed for us not to do very much at all.  It’s tempting to take them out but I’ve encouraged them to play each afternoon, with their new toys, and this has actually been enough.  I just felt that for the rest of the year, I’m running around super busy, it’s just really nice to be at home and enjoying time here.  We have got out for a dog walk each day to blow away the cobwebs (added bonus of the most beautiful sunsets) and I have managed to get down to the gym, which has been the tonic I needed each morning to then enjoy the rest of the day. We did also get out to go ice-skating on the 23rd Dec which was really fun.

I’m looking forward to NYE and then getting stuck right back into making 2018 an even better year for Fine Styling. ❤️

Have a great week.
